The flavoursome single-origin cacao for this bar comes from Lachua, Guatemala. This deeply satisfying cacao is pleasantly acidic, earthy and nutty notes along with citrus and yellow fruit aromas.

Cacao origin:

The farmers who live in the area around Lake Lachuá - a pristine lake in the middle of a national park in the department of Alta Verapaz - are predominantly Q'eqchi Maya who grow cardamom, corn and cocoa. Many of the farmers in this region still live without electricity, internet or telephone.

When they were combined to form 'Cacao Verapaz', the cocoa from this region quickly became known on the chocolate market and was already successful at the International Chocolate Awards.

Given the climatic conditions, this chocolate is subject to natural fluctuations in the different harvest years. The Lachua has a slightly more pronounced acidity and cocoa note. Likewise, the taste of yellow fruits comes more to the fore.

Driven by great curiosity and the belief in trustworthy foods, true masterpieces of sweet art are created by a small team of chocolate makers at Martin Mayer Schokoladen, Austria.

Martin Mayer has had a close relation to chocolate since his childhood. His grandmother, Austria's first master confectioner, made hand-painted Easter bunnies and Santa Claus from chocolate relatively early on.

"Better cocoa, for a better world" is the motto under which Martin works together with various partners to guarantee the best conditions for everyone in the supply chain. He focuses on direct trade with premium cocoa beans in order to provide clear transparency.

Martin's goal is simple: he wants to educate the customer, communicate transparently what makes his products special and support those who form the foundation of his business - the producers of the raw materials. 🤎

Shipping Info

Shipping costs between $3.50 and $5.90 within New Zealand (except for rural). We use PBT couriers within New Zealand and aim for next day delivery on the North Island and 48 hour delivery for the South Island, though occasionally things can take two or three days longer than this. Rural deliveries can take up to six working days, though usually it is faster.

For international deliveries we use DHL. Costs and times vary depending on location and volume of purchase. All details provided at the checkout.
