This Horopito leaf & Kawakawa berry 66% bar is a wonderfully unique Aotearoa New Zealand dark chocolate.

The two native plant species bringing a little spice and heat to the mix along the lines of spiced ginger, cardamom, allspice, a hint of nutmeg and honey, and a gentle peppery finish to the bar.

Horopito and Kawakawa have long been used in traditional Māori medicine, and there is growing scientific evidence of their medicinal value! Historically used for stomach pains, indigestion, as a blood circulation stimulant, and now they are finding more uses all the time. Horopito (Pseudowintera colorata) has an amazing pepper like taste to its leaves which led early colonisers to give it an anglicised common name; the pepper tree.

Kawakawa (Piper excelsum) has beautiful big heart shaped leaves, and many uses, becoming more widely used in things such as skincare, spice mixes, teas and tonics. An amazingly versatile plant that can help with a variety of issues ranging from skin, gastrointestinal, musculoskeletal, wounds and bruising, respiratory and oral issues. It has a cooling and numbing effect that is simply unreal.
